Pharmacological effects Decreasing blood pressure (water leaching, alcohol leaching), mild diuresis (alkaloid fraction).
Indications As a diuretic, antiinflammatory drug and for clearing blood, Jilizi is applied for headache, eye disease, cessation of milk and menstrual irregularity.

Remarks Listed in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia 18th ed.
"Baijili" (Jap. name: Hakushitsuri) which is listed in Materia Medicas is the seed of Astragalus complanatus R. Br. of family Leguminosae. At present, it is called "Shayuanzi" (Jap. name: Saenshi). There is a product named Ruanjili which corresponds to "Yingjili", in an area of Shandong Province of China. It is the fruit of Atriplex sibirica L. of family Chenopodiaceae (allied species of Hamaakaza, Jap. name). In Boxian of Anhui Prov., there are Tonjili (Jap. name: Doshitsuri) and Bojili (Jap. name: Hakushitsuri). These are the seeds of family Leguminosae such as Astragalus complanatus, A. chinensis L. f., Swainsona salsula (Pall) Taub., Crotalaria mucronata Desv., and A. adsurgens Pall.
