References 1) Susanne Kreuz, Elizabeth Joubert, Karl-Heinz Waldmann, Waldemar Ternes, Aspalathin, a flavonoid in Aspalathus linearis (rooibos), is absorbed by pig intestine as a C-glycoside. Nutrition Research 28: 690–701 (2008).
Remarks After oral administration of a rooibos extract to pigs over a period of 11 days urine and plasma samples were collected at various time points. Aspalathin and the metabolites methylated aspalathin, glucuronidated aspalathin, glucuronidated and methylated aspalathin, a glucuronidated aglycone of aspalathin, as well as a metabolite of eriodictyol, were identified in the urine. No metabolites or aspalathin were found in plasma samples. [Kreuz et al., Nutrition Research 28: 690–701 (2008).]
